Ingredients
Dough
- 2 tsp yeast
- 3/4 tsp sugar
- 3/4 cups warm water
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
Topping
- 1/4 cups baking soda
- 3 cups water
- Coarse salt
Instructions
- Pour 1/2 cup water into a bowl and add yeast and sugar. Let stand for a few minutes until bubbles appear.
- Mix in the remaining warm water and the butter.
- In a separate bowl, add in the flour.
- Pour in the yeast mixture into the flour and mix briefly.
- Add the salt and knead for several minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Divide the dough into 6 portions and shape into balls.
- Let stand for 10-15 minutes.
- Roll out each ball to a 60 centimetre rope, leaving the middle thicker than the ends.
- Form a V shape, take the ends and make a twist (several centimetres from the ends).
- Press the ends onto the sides of the pretzel.
- Let stand uncovered for 30 minutes then another 30 minutes in the fridge.
- Preheat oven to 200°C.
- For the topping, bring water to a boil, reduce heat and add soda.
- Dip each pretzel for 5-10 seconds into the water and put them on a baking sheet.
- Sprinkle with coarse salt and let stand for a few minutes.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes.
